Red Hill Walking Tour

The Echo Park Time Bank Saturday Social will be on May 19, 2012 from 11AM to 2PM. It will be a walking tour of the Red Hill area encompassing Elysian Heights and Echo Park with Maryam Hosseinzadeh. The walk begins at 11AM at the traffic island just across the street from Echo Park (http://g.co/maps/bzgkn). Echo Park and Elysian Heights have been home to singers Woody Guthrie and Tom Waits, gay rights activist Harry Hay, artist Paul Landacre, and many other radical innovators and artists --- a location-based legacy that directly connects with the same community spirit and ideals of the Echo Park Time Bank. End at Barragan's, a long-standing location for meetings, gatherings, and reading groups in Echo Park.

Please note: this walk is the same day as the famous two-day Big Parade LA. The Big Parade will hit this area of Echo Park at approximately 3pm after our walk concludes. This walk is an unassociated walk of the neighborhood for those interested in delving into the history of Echo Park. I guess we could call it a pre-parade! Earth day with the L.A. Eco Village

Sunday, April 22nd from 11AM-4PM Earth Day at the L.A. Eco Village 117 Bimini Place in Koreatown. There will be a time banking workshop, arts and crafts for kids and adults, yard sale which will benefit the Bus Riders Union, live music, street painting , and hopefully some dancing!

Earth day with the LBTE

The Long Beach Time Exchange will host a public discussion at Occupy Long Beach's Earth Day celebration, Sunday April 22nd at 3:00pm. We'll be joined by Autumn Rooney, co-founder of the Echo Park Time Bank, and members of Occupy groups from Santa Ana, San Diego, Los Angeles, and Pasadena. Together, we'll discuss and imagine ways to use the reciprocity model of time banking to build more resilient communities that are less reliant on the market economy.

The festival starts at 12pm with a human peace sign demonstration at Temple and Ocean, followed by music and poetry performances, yoga, and our workshop to be held at Bixby Park. Bixby Park is located on Cherry and Broadway in Long Beach, CA. Parking is street-level only, so please carpool, bike, and use public transportation if possible.

Join the Time Bank in activating our newest neighborhood pedestrian plaza, the SUNSET TRIANGLE PLAZA (yes, the green Polka-Dotted street) in Silver Lake with neighbors, food, music, and BIKES! Let's take over the park!

In preparation for cicLAvia, the Time Bank will be helping neighbors with basic bike maintenance and riding tips. Come join us for a fun, educational, and social event.

Bring:
- snacks to share
- your bike
- blankets
- any bike tools to help / share with your fellow neighbors (pumps, wrenches, etc.)
- musical instruments
- a social disposition!

In the spirit of "community", we have monthly Saturday Socials where everyone and anyone is invited. The more the merrier! Time Bank members are encouraged to bring non-Time Bank friends.

NOTE: Basic bike maintenance will be provided by passionate community members and volunteers. For more extensive and technical repairs, please check out your local community bike shop, such as the Golden Saddle Cyclery (http://goldensaddlecyclery.com/) or the Bicycle Kitchen (http://www.bicyclekitchen.com/).

Banking on Drupal

Come to the next Downtown LA Drupal meetup on February 21, 2012 from 6:30-9:30 PM at Droplabs 651 Clover St. L.A. CA 90031, off Main near the Brewery. Droplabs is a Drupal event and coworking space in Downtown Los Angeles. This meetup will focus on our Time Banking software Community Weaver 2.0. Bringing together the L.A. Drupal communtiy with local Time Banks to share and learn from each other.
Light food and refreshments will be served throughout the evening courtesy of Exaltation of Larks, a Drupal strategy, consulting, development and training company with a team of Drupal experts in Los Angeles.
We'll finish off the night with more networking and a Drupal After Dark at 9:30pm.
